If you have a fear of visiting a dental professional, you are not alone. In fact, there are millions of people who suffer from some form of dental anxiety, which can manifest with symptoms such as an increased heart rate and sweaty palms. The great news is that even if you have a phobia of sitting in a dental chair, there are many sedation dentistry options available to help you get through any visit to your periodontist.

Fear Should Not Keep You From the Periodontist

Getting in to see your periodontist should be a priority for your health. Dr. Ann Kania can help monitor the health of your mouth to better fight gum disease and keep your oral health intact. Our goal is to make your visit as relaxing as possible so you can get the dental treatment you need and deserve. To help with this, Dr. Kania offers a few different sedation methods.

There Are Different Sedation Options Available

Sedation dentistry is when your periodontist gives you something to help you feel relaxed or even forget that you are at a dental office. There are a few different ways our office can do this:

  • Oral: We give you a pill that you can take about an hour before your visit. It will help you to feel relaxed during your procedure. This is great for those with severe dental anxiety or those who have a fear of needles.
  • I.V.: We can also administer sedation intravenously. This is more common for people who are undergoing a more complex treatment.
  • Local Anesthetic: Kania administers an anesthetic directly to the site being worked on to numb the area. This is common for procedures such as fillings and root canals.
