If you have anxiety when you visit the dentist or periodontist, you are not alone! In fact, dental anxiety is such a common thing that most dental offices, including South Florida Periodontics & Dental Implants, offer some form of sedation dentistry to help alleviate stress. We know that too many patients go without check-ups or treatment because they fear their office and we want you to feel as comfortable as possible.

Are You a Candidate?

To be a good candidate for sedation dentistry, you must have any of the following:

  • Embarrassment about your teeth
  • Fear of shots and needles
  • Difficulty in getting numb
  • High levels of anxiety and fear
  • Short time to complete treatment
  • Aversion to smells, noises and tastes at the office
  • Sensitive teeth
  • Bad gag reflex
  • A previous traumatic dental experience

Our goal is to make your experience as comfortable as possible while still providing the treatment you need to keep your mouth and gums healthy. Anxiety and fear should not keep you from visiting a periodontist in Miami, FL, when you need treatment.

Types of Sedation

We offer four types of sedation dentistry in our office. Dr. Ross will work with you to determine which option works best for you before your procedure is scheduled.

  • Nitrous oxide: Often used with a local anesthetic, nitrous oxide is sometimes called laughing gas and is used by 35 percent of dentists in the country.
  • Local anesthetic: Used to reduce discomfort and pain by numbing the treated area.
  • Oral sedation: Sedation comes in pill form, and patients come to the office relaxed and drowsy before their appointment starts.
  • IV conscious sedation: Drugs are administered through a needle into a vein for cases of severed dental anxiety. Although the patient is conscious, they rarely remember the procedure and they are closely monitored through the entire thing.

If you have been avoiding dental care because you are afraid of the dentist or periodontist, call us today. We can schedule you a comfortable, relaxing appointment with Dr. Ross.
