Anxiety manifests in many different forms in today’s society. Just as there is treatment for general anxiety for people who struggle to go out in public, sedation dentistry is available to help treat dental anxiety in Ann Arbor, MI, and beyond. Dr. Amar Katranji and the rest of the staff at Michigan Implants & Periodontics want your visit to be as relaxing as possible, so we offer more than one method for sedation.

Options Available With Dr. Katranji

Dental anxiety encompasses a few different phobias. You may have a general fear of visiting a periodontist, either simply because you fear it or you have had a bad experience in the past. On the other hand, perhaps you only have a fear of needles, and so you worry about any dental treatment. Dr. Katranji offers a number of sedation options to meet the needs of different patients:

Nitrous oxide is administered through a breathing mask and gives you a relaxed feeling. This helps to calm you down for treatment. It does not numb the area being worked on.
Local anesthetic is used directly at the site of treatment and is typically administered through a syringe. This is more common for procedures such as a filling or root canal.
Oral sedation involves taking a pill approximately an hour before your treatment. It should give you a relaxed feeling, and you may not even recall your visit or treatment later.
I.V. sedation is more common for complex dental procedures and is administered intravenously to put you “to sleep.” You may not recall your procedure later.
