What Types of Sedation Do We Offer?

At Advanced Endodontics of Westchester, we offer several different options for sedation dentistry to ensure our patients have a comfortable appointment. These include:

  • Intravenous (IV) Sedation

With IV sedation, anti-anxiety and pain killer drugs are administered straight into the bloodstream. It usually only takes about 20-30 seconds for the sedation to begin working, but patients may feel the effects several hours after they wake up. This type of sedation can easily be customized for each individual patient.

  • Oral Sedation

Patients are typically given a pill the night prior to the procedure that ensures a good night’s rest and another pill that has a sedative right before the procedure. The pill takes about 25-30 minutes to begin working, and is often prescribed for patients who have little fear and anxiety regarding their appointment.

  • Nitrous Oxide

Also commonly referred to as laughing gas, nitrous oxide is administered through a nasal mask into your nose. It takes about 2-3 minutes to take full force, and there aren’t any lingering effects since it is a gas. This sedation works best for patients with a slight fear of dentistry.
